A Wedding Card - Recollections Collections

Hi Friends,

Recently I received this amazing invitation to a wedding reception. It was basically a 5" X 8" photo...but...it looked like a gorgeous dimensional scrapbook layout! It had lace and burlap and die cut flowers with button centers... the photos were matted with beautiful paper that looked aged. Really cool...but..flat. It is amazing how far digital scrapbooking has come. It is also intreresting how companies all industry are using the 'scrap style' to sell their products. Well..maybe I am really old fashioned...but I still like to make my own cards and pages and art. I like to get my fingers all messy and sticky with glue. I like to cut things out and stick them on. I know..crazy right???  Here is the card I made to send a little gift as I cannot attend the party. I chose my colors and design ideas from the invitation...and added my own style :)

Lets start with the invitation....

This is the invite and a close up of the corner decoration. The post it notes are to protect the innocent people who don't know I am using their invitation on my blog & Youtube channel..lol

I had these lovely Recollections brand papers and  stamp set that can be purchased at Michael's stores
. (I received these for free so I could try them out and talk about it) I thought the style and colors would be a PERFECT match for the design of my wedding card so I decided to use them in my project.

I started out by using the Recollections stamps. The set is intended for making monograms. It has 2 sizes of alphabets in a fancy style as well as some flourishes and round boarders. It also has a round wooded handle. The stamps have a locking system on the back to attach them to the mounts so you can mix and match. It is an interesting set up and worked well.

Once I had my stamping done, I moved on to the papers. I LOVE this piece of printed cardstock from the Recollections mixed media paper pack and wanted to feature it. I used some dark green cardstock to set off the paper and also coordinate with the green truck and green shirts in the photo. I also had some canvas and burlap from the pack as well as a 5" X 5" craft colored card and some off white cardstock. These mixed media paper packs are pretty versatile with lots of different types of materials in them.

I cut the layers to fit into a 6" X 6" envelope I had in my stash, and then layered them up with some lace from my stash as well.

Next I started embellishing the card I planned to addi as the top layer. I used some more of that gorgeous printed cardstock as a torn layer on the card. I also cut out a ticket from a sheet of the printed cardstock included in the pack. (note there is a ticket looking element on the invitation) I used some vintage photo ink around the edges to age everything.

I cut and frayed some of the canvas and burlap I had from the paper pack..as well as a piece of the corrugated paper. I punched a out some little flowers from the papers. I used distress inks around everything with my ink applicator.

Then I started layering and glueing everything on. I rounded the edges of the monogram I had stamped and attached it with foam tape for some dimension. I also added some aged copper brads for a metal detail.

I used a little sack/envelope from Recollections on the inside flap of the card so that I can add a little money gift. I embellished the sack with a scrap of the green and the other stamped image I had made. I also lined the inside with some of the off white and added some more punched flowers.

I hope you enjoyed this little project made with Recollections products from Michael's stores.
If you did..leave me a comment :)
